Hello Rob!
Well, mine is a -95. But it seems it's not only the year, but also what country it's made for that matters. For instance, my original main-jet was 125, and that seems quite unusual - only heard of it in another swedish bike.
Well, what to do; since you are giving your bike a more unrestricted outlet, you should give it a more unrestricted inlet (air and fuel), and primarely more fuel. Could be done by;
1) removing the white spacer (if you have one) that lowers the needle or raise the needle in some other way
2) change your main-jet to a bigger one - somewhere in the area of 7.5-10 bigger than the original one (ie if you have a 140 original, then you should get a 147.5 or 150)
3) Letting more air in by putting on a more flow-able filter on the carb or doing other stuff to the airbox - Bryan F seems to know quite alot about these things.
The main thing is to try and try and try, and see what happens. There are no exact numbers you can take to get it right from the start. Every bike is quite individual, and what works for you may not work for the other guy.
So my best advice would be - be interested and take the time to fiddle around with your bike. At least you can expect to learn something about motors - I think I did.
- Happy thumpin' -
